Sheila Capetta's passions for photography began when she was a child. What started out as a hobby quickly became her dream career. While living in NC, she began shoot weddings and family sessions for fun. Realizing that her passion for capturing special moments between people could turn into the opportunity of a life time, she decided to complete her education in photography. She moved from NC to Boston, MA where she attended The New England School of Photography. After completing the program with a major in Portraiture and minor in Architecture, Sheila accepted a position with an award winning studio based out of Beacon Hill in Boston and was the associate photographer at the Brigham and Women's Hospital location. While working at the studio, she also took on expanding her own business. This led to working for many companies and associations along the way which has allowed her to travel and see the country and world while doing what she loves. After several years of living in Boston she decided to relocate and is currently residing in CT and spending her days working and traveling.

How did you get started with photography

My love of photography started when I was just 8 years old. My mother, who was an artist, always had her camera with her. I started borrowing it while on hikes or at family events and quickly realized that I loved being behind the lens! I took photographs for fun and then when I had the opportunity in high school to take film and digital photography classes I jumped at the chance. It didn't hit me until several years later that this is what I was meant to do. That is what led me to fulfilling my education in photography.

What do you love about your job?

My love of photography really started with emotion. Seeing people on there wedding day or the day their baby is born and being able to capture those quiet, intimate and once in a life time moments are what drew me to photography. The ability to turn them into timeless memories that have a way to draw you right back to that moment and the way you felt in it is something I think sticks with you. Seeing people tear up because they look at the wedding images years later but remember how they felt in that very moment is the reason why I do what I do. Time goes by so fast and savoring certain parts of life is so important in remembering where you came from and what you have experienced.

What are some of your favorite places in Hartford to take photographs?

I recently moved from Boston where I used to love to photograph people in the Public Garden. Now that I'm in CT I always enjoy the woods (especially this time of year!) or one of the many parks.
