camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Emily has been in love with capturing moments since she was a little kid! For the last 10 years Emily has pursued and studied Photography vigorously. She took Photography classes all four years of High School, and by the time she was a Senior she was in a college level (AP) class. Her intent was to go to school to get a BFA in Photography, but unfortunately her family did not have the financial means. So she took matters into her own hands...learning from, and creating with, other artists. As time went on Emily gained more experience, and confidence, in her work. One of her most recent photo's is on the cover of a local Portland publication for an entire year! She has also toured with the band Circa Survive for 3 cities with photos published on the band's social media. In addition to this, Emily also had photos published in Willamette Week and Portland Monthly's Online Magazine.

How did you get started with photography

When I was younger, my grandparents would always have National Geographic magazines around their house. I would sit with them for hours, admiring the images inside the covers. This admiration turned into passion when I got my first Canon point and shoot at 13. After a few years of practice, I got the opportunity to work for a local studio, where I learned the foundations of DSLR operation and studio-style techniques.

What do you love about your job?

I love that I get to work with so many different kinds of people. I love the reactions I get from my happy clients, who are so excited to finally have a photo of their child, their mother, their partner, or themselves. Being able to contribute to that feeling of glee is the best part of my job.

What are some of your favorite places in Philadelphia to take photographs?

I love traveling to the near by areas, like the shore or Valley Green near the suburbs. In the city itself, I love finding creative alleys with art on the walls. I also like talking to the subjects before to see where they frequent, because if I can get them in their element, I feel that they are most comfortable and most themselves.
