Honestly, my passion for photography started out of necessity. As any Graphic Designer out there, I always need original artwork, specially photos. At first I thought it was easy, just point and shoot, but once you get involve in cameras, lenses, subjects and lights, the need for knowledge needs to be tame. So while working on my BFA and Graphic Design AD at Texas A&M I took as many Photography classes I could. Ever since, I've been photographing everything on my way: people, animals, clothes, food.. you name it, I've shot it. I love to capture the realness out of everything, the texture in trees, the movement in the hair, the pouty mouths during family shoots, the little flower girls running away from the altar... all of it, life

How did you get started with photography

I got started with photography as a sophomore in high school when I received my first digital camera as a birthday gift. I fell in love with portraiture and working with people and soon began doing graduate photos, family portraits, and small events for friends and family. When it came time for me to go to college I was accepted at the Art Institute and decided to get my degree in photography. Shortly after starting I found a new passion for fashion & beauty photography and eventually started my business Blue Marie Photography.

What do you love about your job?

I love connecting with people more than anything else. I always make an effort to bring my subjects out of their shell, capture real emotions, and show their true personalities. One thing I always think about is how intimate photographing someone can be and if I can get my subject to let themselves be open and vulnerable with me then I believe I have done my job. Capturing an image of someone is one thing, but capturing a connection between them and myself is something that is truly special. One of the greatest compliments I have received was from one of my toughest instructors while I was in school - he said I really know how to get my subjects to connect with the lens. That is something I will hold close to me through my entire career.

What are some of your favorite places in San Antonio to take photographs?

Living in Texas is such a blessing as a photographer because there are so many diverse and interesting places to shoot. If I want to do a woodsy/nature shoot I would go to Landa Park in or Denman Estate Park. If I'm looking for something more urban downtown San Antonio has tons of unique gems and buildings to shoot at. There are beautiful bodies of water, breathtaking scenery, and unique architecture for any type of shoot I could do.
