Helga is a highly accomplished photographer with over 30 years of experience. She began her career working for the Melbourne Age and several major metropolitan magazines. She studied photography at RMIT and also has a Masters in Contemporary Art from the VCA. Helga exhibits regularly in Australia and internationally and her work is held in both public and private collections; including the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and the Epworth Art Foundation. A book of her photographs was published by Five Mile Press in 2015, titled 'Mother Country'. Her passion lies in finding the beauty in the ordinary and everyday moments of life.

Qu'est-ce que vous aimez dans votre métier ?

My job gives me the freedom to be explore and satisfy my curious nature, it allows me to learn about different people and different places. I try to make meaning and beauty out of what I see.

Quels types de séances avez-vous réalisés et comment les avez-vous rendus spéciaux ?

I've done so many different types of shoots over the years but portraiture is probably my speciality, I'm good at putting people at ease and expressing their unique beauty. I understand that people can feel quite stressed by having their photograph taken and I'm good at keeping it relaxed and enjoyable.

Prix, distinctions et reconnaissances reçus

I've been shortlisted for the prestigious Bowness Photographic prize twice and I'm a member of Mapgroup, an independent collective of documentary photographers. We work on projects together which are of a social documentary nature. We regularly collaborate with the Australian Conservation Foundation and produced a book titled 'Heartland' as a fundraiser for the ACF.

When not photographing I have a passion for growing my own vegetables and flowers, I love getting my hands in the soil, keeps me grounded.
