A university-trained journalist now focusing exclusively on photography, I hail from Eastern Europe. As a schoolgirl I roamed the streets of that peerless Slavic metropolis (not alone, of course), honing my black-and-white skills on Grandpa's cherished prewar Leica. Now based in Houston, Texas, I am committed to putting my subjects at ease and capturing them in their finest moments, candid or posed. My photography emanates from deep within me - motivated and inspired, above all, by my love of the art and for my subjects, and for capturing everything that is human in every image.

More about Amalya S....

What do you love about your job?

I love to see the happy faces of my clients watching their photos, and coming back to me over and over again.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

As a photographer, I've embraced a wide spectrum of creative projects. My experience ranges from crafting dramatic studio lighting setups to capturing the unique beauty of underwater photos.

To make each shoot special, I focus on bringing a creative perspective to every stage. This starts during the photoshoot itself, where I actively explore different angles, compositions, and interactions with the subject to capture moments that go beyond the ordinary. This might involve experimenting with unconventional framing, playing with shadows and highlights in unexpected ways, or encouraging a more authentic and natural connection with the subject.

My creative approach extends into post-production as well. Here, I meticulously refine the images, enhancing their mood and visual impact while staying true to the essence of the captured moment. This might involve subtle color grading to evoke a specific feeling, creative cropping to emphasize a particular detail, or more advanced techniques to bring out textures and depth. Ultimately, my goal is to deliver images that are not just technically sound, but also visually compelling and tell a unique story.

A fun fact about this photographer

To capture those truly fantastic photos, I often ask my clients to pretend I'm their best friend during our sessions! While it might not always be a lifelong bond in the making, it definitely helps bring out genuine smiles and relaxed vibes – and that always translates to amazing pictures! 😉
