Ash is a Montreal based freelance photographer with a specialization in event photography. His notable employers are Piknic Electronik, Mutek, Pop Montreal & DTLQC.
He has extensive experience working in dynamic and poorly lit environments. As a self-taught photographer, he use his critical eye to find and capture strong images, no matter the the limitations.
Studying Art History & Film Studies, art and cinema has always been his original passion and heavily influences his work. Instead of capturing an image, he tries to capture a scene, movement, the energy of a moment. He finds fulfillment in delivering photographs with an artistic flair (a subtle one) while maintaining a professional finish.
I absolutely love capturing the energy of a subject. There is a hidden vibration in everything and capturing that essence is an extremely satisfying and rewarding experience. Finding different ways to make an exceptional image, though lighting, composition, direction, colour grading, etc. is an extremely creative process and fulfills my thirst for content creation.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
With event photography, I try my best to stay far and not disturb any candid moments between people. I typically use a zoom lens to get intimate and close with a subject, while keeping a safe distance. When I find a scene I like, I stay planted and patiently wait until I capture the energy and movement that perfectly describes the moment. People often describe my event photography as if they were there themselves. When it comes to portraits, I talk to the model to find out about who they are and what represents them. When it's for a more artistic portrait, I aim to get a feeling out of them, typically an air of soft melancholy.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I have actually never entered myself in any photography contests...
A fun fact about this photographer
I'm extremely curious about everything! I absolutely love hearing people's stories and how people think. I want to try stand up comedy one day and I also have a radio show where I DJ deep electronic music on a local fringe internet radio station.
