What do you love about your job?

I love that a camera puts me in places and around people I’d otherwise never have access to. It’s how I learn about the world.

I’ve been able to build a career out of that, covering humanitarian issues, working with small businesses, and seeing that work actually has an impact. The human element is what matters to me.

The camera is just the tool. Whether it’s something serious or something simple, like helping someone hold onto a moment, it’s all part of the same thing: connecting with and helping people.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I’ve shot a range of events, along with brand and portrait work. I approach them the same way I would any documentary situation, staying aware, blending into the environment, and paying attention to what’s actually happening. That’s usually where the strongest images come from, when people aren’t performing for the camera but just being themselves.

A fun fact about this photographer

I am an avid outdoorsman. I spend most of my free time surfing, hiking with my wife and dog, or climbing. I have spent most of my life in nature whenever possible.
