More about Jessica W....
What do you love about your job?
I love my job as a person-centered photographer because it gives me an opportunity to also be a generational storyteller, educator, light specialist, giggle inducer and candid photo creator with some surprising ninja moves. I love serving people, providing them with physical memories of a specific time in their lives, and being a second set of eyes for each of them... capturing moments they may not have otherwise been able to witness. This is important to me. In the field of special education, I learned the hard way that our time here on this earth is too short. The smiles, accomplishments, milestones... what are they if we just live them and leave them? I want to capture them. Relive them. Share them. I want your portrait session or your wedding day to be a memory in itself. A time where you can step away from the world spinning around us, the life that seems mundane or hectic and just BE. Be with your love, your family, or your own beauty. That truly fuels my heart and allows my job to ALWAYS be my passion.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have done a variety of shoots over the last three years. Regardless of the type of session, I do the following things to make every session as special as possible!
1. Educate, Prepare, and Support: It is important to me that clients come to a session feeling relaxed and knowing exactly what to expect. I communicate with clients ahead of time, provide them with a guide on what to expect, great outfit choices, etc., and offer them assistance with whatever they might need. My goal is to become true friends that my clients can trust before ever stepping in front of my camera.
2. Get To Know You: I video chats, in-person meetings, phone calls, and or questionnaires to get to know my clients and their story before their session/wedding so that I can connect with them and/or surprise them with special ideas, props, or locations based on their relationship!
3. Provide Guidance: You don't have to be a model to have beautiful photographs! I always tell my clients that candid shots are my absolute favorite, but sometimes when couples are put in front of a camera they forget how to just be (completely normal!). To make their session special, I will guide them into flattering poses for their body types that I know they will be comfortable with based on our prior interactions. Then I give them clear instructions on how they could interact, change the tone or volume of my voice to invoke a specific emotion (quiet, laughter, romantic, etc.), do a ninja move to get into the perfect location, and SNAP!
