Shafin started photography three years ago as a hobby that grew into a passion. He loves taking photographs and has had the opportunity to work under some very professional and well respected photographers, like Dallas based photographer Mike McLean, Collin College professor Lisa Means and Elizabeth Mellot. He learned from the best of the best and has shot graduations, events, headshots, portraits, fashion, food and a variety of other things, before deciding that he wanted to do portrait photography as a job. He is very fond of the documentary process of taking pictures. Freezing moments in time for us to look back to and reminiscing on old memories that are long gone with the passage of time. It has the ability to unlock emotions inside of people, that no words can ever express. That is why it is his passion.

More about Shafin K....

What do you love about your job?

I love fact that I have creative freedom. I have the ability to express and document my vision. It does have its constraints but I can always work around them in a way that benefits me and the client. It helps me build good relationships with the people around me, by listening to what they want and not sell them something that I want. This creates trust which in turn leads to growth and better benefits for both sides of an agreement. I love being open and truthful about the work that I with my clients. I just want everyone to have a good time and that's basically what I get from working as a photographer on my own.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have shot student council photos for a high school, high school graduations, an event, food photography for an international photography competition. I also practiced shooting fashion magazine covers, different studio lighting patterns, street fashion, birthdays and headshots. I always try to listen to the customer and what they want and then I also incorporate a little bit of my style and I include both so they have a larger array of choices to select from. And sometimes I also encourage non-traditional methods of posing and trying out different styles but only through the means of suggestions to the customer if they are willing to. As these are not typically what people think of in regards to posing and photographs. I'm a big fan of shooting in abstract and interesting locations which makes a lot of my photos special.

A fun fact about this photographer

I'm actually a computer science major at the University of Texas Dallas. I completed the first year of my degree at Collin county community College. And even though I have a love and passion for photography I'm actually a science major and something which is more like my plan B if photography doesn't work out for me in the long run. I also studied the British curriculum for the first chunk of my life up to 10th grade under a school run by the British council in a different country in Asia called Bangladesh.
