More about Lauren K....

What do you love about your job?

I enjoy using the tools of photography, like lighting and angles, to make a product look it's absolute best, and I take a lot of pride in delivering that glamorous product 'hero' shot to independent business owners and growing businesses. I love using photography to showcase the hard work of other wonderfully talented people that I get to work with, so that they can share it with a larger audience and attract more customer.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have photographed at many different types of shoots and each type requires a slightly different approach. For food photography, I talk to the chef/restaurant owner/client as both an employer and a collaborator. I am genuinely interested in the creativity and ingenuity that goes into their dishes, their menu, their creative vision, and I think that shows.

For Product Photography I do something similar, I talk with the business owner/merchant about what their target client is, what features of the product are most important to showcase, and take the time to learn about the product itself. I discuss with them one-on-one to create a list of every photo they want or need, and the goals of what they want to communicate about the product, so that I can make suggestions where needed. For example, if they would like to show off that the product can be used on-the-go, I might suggest something like a photo of the product in or next to a neatly-styled backpack.

Photoshoots with families and children can be made special by making sure you learn everyone's name and more about them before showing up to start the photoshoot. Knowing little details like that the family's five-year-old loves Elsa from Frozen, or correctly spelling a difficult-to-spell name in block letters for their newborn photos is so important, because it shows the family that you have taken the time to add a personal touch.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

I have been published several times, but I have not applied to any awards.

A fun fact about this photographer

I love to read (usually sci fi), I have questionable taste in music (but I won't make you listen to it), and I make homemade marshmallows!
