Makena is a skilled photographer with a eye for natural light and beautiful, authentic moments based on the Central Coast of California available worldwide, employing a DSLR and a variation of film cameras if desired. Her work is informed by moods and emotion; and she most enjoys utilizing the sensitivity of film.
Working in contemporary art in Kauai, Hawaii awakened my own desire to explore and deepen my practice in photography, and I have been shooting professionally now for four years. My background includes a Bachelors of the Arts, including completed photography, retouching, and fine art classes, as well as professional experience working with clients such as State Farm, Laka Living, Cedar and Stone, and more. I have worked with a broad array of clients, from commercial insurance companies to feminist-centric wellness and jewelry companies, to shooting the artistic lifestyles of bands and weddings. I enjoy the challenge of meeting the client’s exact vision; whether that be a strict guideline of what is necessary for them to publish commercially, or a creative vision that we have collaborated on together.
I love coming alongside a client and planning, organizing and executing the creative vision that we have collaborated on. I enjoy the opportunity to create and capture unique moments, and the ability to portray an exact mood, emotion, and moment in time.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have worked commercially doing everything from shoots for insurance companies to jewelry and food and wellness brands. I have the most experience content curating for brands, providing them with photos including lifestyle and creative product placement to fill their blogs, newsletters, Instagrams etc. for branding and marketing.
