Matthew Leland's love of photography as lead him to work with a number of types of clients to expand his skill set and experience. Starting out in wedding photography, and recently working in Los Angeles on set with celebrities, his portfolio is as diverse as his interest in all types of photography and production. With hundreds of professional gigs under his belt after 8 plus years of experience, he has nothing against pushing himself further for his clients and himself.
There is nothing like being able to see something in your mind and being able to turn it into a real world image and concept. What I love about photography is that I can take something we see with our eyes, and with careful choice of a lens, shaping the environment with light, and adding in design and color, you can make something out of this world. And then when your clients see your vision in something real and tangible… you can't beat it.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
At this point, I think I've nearly done it all. Between weddings to dodging debris from a monster truck spinning around a coliseum, I've pushed myself to do a lot. I think the key to my eye is blending things that you wouldn't normally see together, stylistically. For instance, maternity photos are usually soft and dreamy... what if I tossed some bold lighting on her and made her look like a movie star? Mixing up styles and concepts really open the door for something new.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
None that come to mind... I haven't really ever pursued art galleries or contests. My favorite is walking into a persons house I know and seeing my photos on their well for them to see everyday... that's my recognition.
A fun fact about this photographer
I'm a custom car builder and it's a very fun side passion for me. I've got my family's '69 Buick that I take to work often and working currently on a radical '54 Ford custom. If I'm not making art in one way, I gotta make it in another!
