More about Mia Rose D....

What do you love about your job?

I have tried my hand at several types of photography through the years, but for me it all comes down to storytelling and people. People are at the heart of everything I love about photography, and I hold weddings and couples photos very close to my heart. I can't help it -- I love love. Romantic love, platonic love between friends and family, or the love an owner has for their pet -- you can find little stories of love in every day, and it's my greatest joy to capture them.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I don't treat any two shoots alike -- each subject, location, and occasion makes for a completely unique shoot that requires care and attention. This approach applies to each of the shoots I take part in, whether it's a cozy, in-home couples shoot or a high-level conceptual fashion shoot. I love getting to know my subjects as much as possible before taking their photo -- for couples, I always like to meet over a cup of coffee and talk about how they met and how they got here before the shoot.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

CASE - Council for Advancement and Support of Education - Gold Award - Electronic & Digital Media Innovation in Web or Social Media for "The Office Hours" photo series at the University of Portland.

In collaboration with the Hannah Bogenreuther from the University of Portland's Marketing and Communication department, I captured the offices of professors in different disciplines across campus. These photographs of the professors and their workspaces were paired with interviews asking them about the pieces in their offices that mean the most to them. Students can often feel intimidated by professors and not utilize their office hours - the aim of this photojournalistic project was to make these spaces more accessible and comfortable for students.

A fun fact about this photographer

I'm a proud mom to my cat + 15 plants (and counting)!
