Nathan F.

I have been shooting for a decade and working professionally for the last five years. Most of what I know came from volume rather than a classroom. I spent eight months as a staff photographer for a production company in Kauai, shooting underwater and portrait work on back to back charters and delivering finished, edited galleries the same day, every day. Some days that meant culling and editing 500 plus images before I went to bed.

Alongside that I have shot commercial work for brands including DJI, Solitude Mountain Resort, Liquid IV and Jackery, residential real estate including interiors, exteriors and aerials, and live events and concerts on same night deadlines.

I shoot a Canon R5 and fly my own drone. I am organized, I communicate, and I hit turnarounds. Mostly I just still love doing this, which is why I have never wanted a job where I put the camera down.

More about Nathan F....

What do you love about your job?

I love that no two days look the same. One week I am in the water shooting a family who has been planning that trip for two years, the next I am on a mountain with an athlete, then a product shoot, then a house. I have never had to sit still for it, and I get to be good at something that keeps changing.

The part that actually gets me is the handoff. On Kauai I sold the gallery to guests right after each trip, so I watched hundreds of people see their photos for the first time. Someone scrolls through and stops on one frame and their whole face changes, because you caught something they were going to forget, and now they have it forever.

Every type of job that is so different is honestly one of my favorite parts about photography, there's so many different types and I genuinely love all of them. It's so fun, exciting, new and never the same.

I also love the people I get to meet. Whether it be a portrait shoot or athletes, or a restaurant owner, I genuinely love meeting people and creating something they can use to improve their business, life, or even just have memories to cherish.

That is the whole job to me. Everything else is logistics.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have done tons of different types of shoots, from shooting professional skiers in the backcountry on extreme terrain, to families snorkeling with sea turtles, to weddings, restaurants, products like bikes and generators and everything in between. I would say the way I consistently make shoots special is by bringing my high energy and passion for photography, but also life, to anywhere I may find myself and making those I'm shooting with have this energy that comes across in the content we capture.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

I don't think I've received any awards in specific however I am most proud of my campaigns and the list of brands I've had the privilege of shooting for over my career. Companies like DJI, Jackery, and Barstool to name a few are huge clients I never could've dreamt having the opportunity to work for and those projects have taught me so many things which I'm very proud of.

A fun fact about this photographer

I actually am a music producer and DJ in my free time! I fell in love with music in college and have been using it as a creative outlet ever since!
