More about Sam R....
What do you love about your job?
I love learning stories & I love telling stories and photography has given me such a wonderful pathway to do both of these things. Every time I head to a shoot, I am always excited to get to see who I get to connect with & learn about, and I love being able to express that through my photography as well.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have done a large assortment of occupational photography in automobile garages. I made them special by trying to capture the personality of each mechanic shop. All of them had personalities-- whether it be in the physical space like in the decorations or pictures on the wall, the mechanics who tell stories after having worked there for decades, or simply how the tools were organized. It's always such a pleasure to explore how there can be so much depth can be found in a shoot.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I was one of the first photographers ever to help a arts prison project capture what they were doing anonymously & shared it with the public! The photo journalism project was published in three local magazines!
A fun fact about this photographer
I own a non-profit & have loved every second of it-- www.creativehumanizingproject.com. This lil operation of ours has allowed me to practice one of my biggest passions-- forwarding human rights-- with art, narratives, research, photography, & education.
