More about Susanna D....
What do you love about your job?
I love the elements of the unknown/intangible in photography and how they intersect and crystallize into a material finished product of an immaterial static moment in time. I like how I can have an idea/concept of what I want to achieve visually going into a shoot and all the surprises and experimentation that enter into it along the way, that yield both what I envisioned and set out to make and also shots that I never anticipated or would have planned.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have done a lot of portrait shoots, primarily for magazines and for individuals/families, and have also photographed events/weddings. Some of published work can be viewed at: http://susannathornton.com/tearsheets.pdf. I love working with light at different times of day and finding an interesting composition to frame the subject/portrait using the best of every scenario and environment, then try to create an interesting image of the person in their environment that captures something beautiful about them.
