Rusty Waddell is a published commercial food and beverage photographer / whiskey aficionado located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. With 10+ years of experience behind the camera and in the kitchen, he found his passion for food could translate into enticing, and remarkable images. In the fall of 2016 he received his BFA in photographic imaging from The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, and now works in digital marketing and social media strategy.
I love the freedom in creativity. Being able to see things for more than what they are. It’s really cool being able to take something simple and turn it into something beautiful. In the past, I’ve always felt stagnant at repetitive jobs. With photography, every day is different and brings a new and fun challenge.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I’ve done many types of shoots. Food, portrait, real estate, events, weddings, and landscapes. I think every shoot has something unique that makes it special, but not cutting any corners is how I try to make them the best I can. Paying attention to all of the small details and trying new things always pays off.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I’ve been published many times while working at the agency. I also received a few smaller awards in student art shows in college.
A fun fact about this photographer
Aside from photography I have a pretty large amount of hobbies. I’ve been playing guitar for 12 years. I like to draw and paint. I started skateboarding when I was 14 and still do that to this day. I also like to juggle!
