Hi there! The name's Johnny and I've had the passion for photography since 2013. My style is very diverse, adapting to the subject presented in front of me; shooting still-life and products that require meticulous attention to detail and precision, shooting dancers where timing is key to freeze action at its critical moment, shooting events where being aware of the surroundings lead to images that encapsulate a moment a time and shooting portraits that capture a person's character and beauty.

How did you get started with photography

My start in photography was when I was 10. Photographing everyone you know, their weddings, building projects, parties and artworks, then you get a Visual Arts Degree. Then one day you find yourself waist-deep in mud in an underground mine with your camera overhead and think this is my job. You wake up in the morning with a Leica in your hand...... isn't that how everyone gets started in photography?

What do you love about your job?

Once I had to photograph 100 staff, all lined up at lunch break. One lady who was very pretty, straight out said she had a glass eye and her portraits were always terrible so just shoot one frame. I didn’t shoot any, and asked her to come back when everyone was gone. Cautiously she returned, as we chatted and did a few photographs, her face had changed and no one could tell she had a glass eye, with the right angle, light and mindset. I showed her on the computer, and she promptly burst into tears. No one had ever taken the time, to consider her, and she was really beautiful. This is what makes photography rewarding. You never know what someone has gone through before you meet them, but everyone deserves a decent image.

What are some of your favorite places in Sydney to take photographs?

Sydney Harbour is an internationally recognisable location. Barangaroo is visually strong for a modern narrative, and I am enthusiastic that images for customers are as contemporary as possible. Surry Hills laneways, can be good for a Boho look. Centennial Park is local to me, thus I know where the light is great and peaceful wooded spaces that are secluded. I maintain an online gallery of location images for customers to reference. Then tailor, colours moods and styles according to the need of the person.
