Nikon Z8, Nikon ZR, Nikon Z6Alexander Kabanov has worked as a professional photographer since 2010, with a portfolio spanning documentary, advertising, and the performing arts. His work has included productions at the Bolshoi, Stanislavsky and Kremlin Ballet theatres, as well as collaborations with the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow. More recently, he worked in the UK and France with the Royal Academy of Music, Hurn Court Opera and the Opéra de Baugé.
He has extensive experience in news and documentary photography for organisations including the British, Indian, Austrian, and Bangladeshi Embassies in Russia. He has also completed numerous commercial portrait commissions, both as an independent photographer and in collaboration with advertising agencies.
Between 2015 and 2019, Alexander created a series of documentary projects exploring the lives and careers of international dancers on the Russian stage, featuring artists including Joy Womack, the first American woman to graduate from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy with a red diploma and the first American woman to join the Bolshoi Ballet as a soloist.
He also documented life in rural Russia, creating a long-term project on the communities of the Volgo-Don Canal and the town of Tsimlyansk. Alongside this work, he produced documentary films and photographic essays about the canal itself and was shortlisted in the Young Photographers of Russia competition in 2016.
Since 2014, he has also worked in film and video production, creating concert films, documentaries and educational content, including extensive work with the Bolshoi Ballet Academy between 2020 and 2025. Since relocating to Dorset in 2022, Alexander has focused on his photography work with particular interest in portraiture, weddings, real estate and performance photography.
