More about BRIAN H....

What do you love about your job?

I love the people I get to meet and the opportunity to document something that only happens once in someones life. That's what makes photography special for me. From a baby's first photo to documenting the creation of a historic artwork it will only happen once and get to be there, up close and personal, knowing that someone will laugh or cry or learn something that changes their life in some way.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have shot pictures for pregnant mothers as they delivered their babies in the delivery room. following them from pre to post delivery. Watching them with their husbands or boyfriends seeing their child being delivered is an awesome feeling. They laugh and cry and hold hands and hug and then share with their mothers. Those are the most special shoots of all. Shooting stills and video and creating what looks like a theatrical film they can watch over and over again, there's nothing like it.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

I have not competed throughout my career. I have been asked through word of mouth to shoot some of the most important people end events. From the Grammy awards in Los Angeles to post war in Liberia West Africa and everything in between. I just completed photographing and filming a Fresco Mural created for the City of Detroit main convention center Cobo Center, the 30x30 foot mural is the largest since Diego Rivera's 1932 at the Institute of Arts and the Mayor will do an unveiling this week. I pride myself on being the guy who gets that call, when the job no matter how big or small, only happens once and there can't be an "ooops" when the moment is gone.

A fun fact about this photographer

I play trumpet, piano and studied Kung Fu and Tai Chi. I still pull out my trumpet once in a while to hear myself blow nothing but Hot Air, can't blow a not anymore but that horn got me to where I am today, just on the other side of the stage. My camera makes me feel like a performer and always gives me a story to tell.
