More about Kurt J....
What do you love about your job?
When I walked away from building I had acquired a deep knowledge of building, lighting, landscape design, and interiors. This intimate knowledge informs my ability to document with great appreciation what the architects, designer and trades being to the constructed environment. To share and translate these efforts to stimulate create conversation for these professionals is beyond what I ever considered doing with photography.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
Many of my clients are long term. We met and started building a portfolio/website that is built over time. One shoot at a time over many years those stories help define what makes those professionals special.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
My work has been published in many magazines and won AIA Awards for the Architects and Designers I have worked with. My greatest reward from photography has been working with Housing for Health in Los Angeles documenting their projects to shelter and help the homeless. A crisis that has no solution but a dedicated group of individuals working to find those solutions.
A fun fact about this photographer
Sailing is it! I still own the fifty foot sailboat that our family sailed for three years through Central America, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean ending in Florida. Talking people sailing will change their lives. There is no TV, social media, radio, or phone service so you have to talk, read, dream and just be present for one another and the world at hand.
