camera Nikon D800, Nikon D700

Shelby was formally trained in photography at Towson University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Art + Design. While studying, Shelby found herself being drawn more and more toward using artificial lighting to create a natural-looking image. She often looks for ways to incorporate added light into her images, aiming to create a visually interesting image of a subject, rather than relying on the uniqueness of the subject, alone, to carry the image. Her mastery of artificial light allows her to have complete control over her shoots and over the look of the final product.

Kevin loves gadgets and what is better than a camera! These are amazing tools that allow you to share and shape our world with images. He has always known the power of a great image to influence people, whether it was candidate shot of friend or a tall building, it told a story that changed the way you viewed the world. His first camera was a manual Kodak film camera that required knowledge of settings based on the available light and not just pointing and shooting. Those lessons have made him a better photographer today, as getting a good shot upfront is worth more than a photoshopped image.

Though the last few years he has used this perspective alongside a continually growing photographic skillset to satisfy an ever-growing group of clients.

How did you get started with photography

I have “framed photos” in my mind’s eye since I can remember. My love for photography blossomed when my father surprised me my first SLR camera on my 12th birthday. Suddenly I had the tools to capture and create everything and anything I wanted. I enjoyed taking photos all though high school and then in college I honed my skills as a multi-media artist with an emphasize in photography. It was then that I knew photography would be a lifelong passion.

What do you love about your job?

Everything. I love what happens when I just know that a good photo is about to happen. That perfect light, those genuine smiles, the love so obvious between two or more people... To have the privilege to be there during someone’s special moment in time and then to capture it in a unique and meaningful manner brings me infinite joy.

What are some of your favorite places in Baltimore to take photographs?

My favorite places to photograph in Baltimore are Federal Hill, the Washington Monument, The Domino Sugar Factory sign in Southwest Baltimore and Patterson Park Pagoda in Butcher’s Hill. I also love shooting in my current home town of Bel Air and nearby locations such as the Liriodendron Mansion, and Rockfield Manor. Since I’ve always been attracted to nature, some other favorite spots are Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, Kilgore Falls in Pylesville, the King and Queen’s Seats in Rocks State Park as well as Gunpowder Falls State Park.
