I am a food photographer based in Sydney with a Brazilian background and flare. After working years on the IT industry, since 2008 Paula has being focusing in her passion of photography and food. To match that passion she also completed her Diploma in Photography at TAFE NSW. Paula is a beginner cook who enjoys the challenges and the search of perfection. Daily, when not on assignment, you will find her at her kitchen developing ideas for her photographs. She sometimes blogs her experiences on her Cook&Click space. Bright colours are her signature but in 2014 she released a series “Food in Monochrome” where she showed ingredients on its raw form in beautiful lighting. Paula loves all aspects of photography and she has worked with major companies on corporate portraits, stock libraries, events, food-related events and others. How did you get started with photography

I have always been passionate about telling a story or conveying an idea through images. As a corporate executive and working across international borders, I often relied on images to promote corporate messages in employee development programs and culture change initiatives. To de-stress from almost 20 years of corporate life, I picked up a camera and took time to stop, breathe and observe the world around me. Photography quickly became a passion and transformed my life. In 2008 (before the days of Instagram), I became very active on an international online photography community and received incredible training and mentoring from a number of talented photographers from around the world. I devoted all my time to learning the craft - through trial, error, experimentation and experience. One of my first projects was completing a 365 day project, photographing a toy robot every day for one year which had a substantial following around the world. To this day, I receive messages from people who fondly remember my tiny robot project and his story. I have since completed three similar personal projects. My photography has actively promoted awareness and raised funds to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. I was ranked in the top 10 fundraisers for the 2013 Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign. In 2014 I self-published a photography book to raise funds for a Vanuatu charity that builds schools and health centres in remote island communities. After several years of learning the craft, I turned my passion for photography into a small freelance business that caters to a broad yet loyal client base.

What do you love about your job?

What I love most about my job is the diversity of people I meet and the diversity of assignments that I am able to competently capture. For me, every photoshoot presents a unique opportunity to creatively and visually solve a "problem" for a client - whether it is commercial images to launch a new product, publicity photos to promote a talent; or to capture the special candid moments at an event. I love to hear about the story behind the product/ person/ event. I intentionally use that knowledge to shoot engaging images that reflect my client's story, that in turn this helps my client to connect with their customers, express their passion, or capture those special fleeting moments in their life's journey.

What are some of your favorite places in Sydney to take photographs?

Not far from my studio, I have great access to rocky outcrops and bushland that overlooks the Sydney Harbour Bridge, harbour and city skyline. This would have to be one of my most favourite places to shoot - every day the colours are different and I am spoilt for choice about backdrops for my clients.

The beautiful Harbour, the lush blue sea, the unfolding petals of the Opera House, the magnificent Harbour Bridge and most importantly the bright, clear sky throughout the year - that symbolises the City of Sydney. There are very few metro cities in the world where fascinating views of rock, mountain, river, ocean, forest and urban fabric lies together - Sydney is one of those and that certainly makes it the best choice for product photography. Whether you're running a company or just a little side hustle, Snappr product photographers can help you get amazing photographs of your wares.
