From Montana to Mexico and Ecuador and all around the Rocky Mountain west Kip Sikora and his dog have logged thousands of miles on the road. He's managed a cattle farm, documented the lives of outlaw bikers and spent two and a half years living in an indigenous community tucked into the folds of an Andean cloud forest. He's shot concerts, fashion and food, and believes there is no better buzz than capturing what Henri Cartier-Bresson calls the decisive moment. He earned an MA in Photojournalism from the University of Montana and is endlessly inspired by the unscripted flow of shared experience referred to as reality.

How did you get started with photography

I first got into video when I was 6 years old. I got to play with a home video camera my dad borrowed from a friend. I ended up directing my siblings in short movies, I kept this passion alive for years making films as a hobby, when I transitioned to make a career out of visual storytelling I picked up photography as well.

What do you love about your job?

Telling stories visually has always been my passion. And I love seeing reactions to the work, especially when it makes an impact or reaches people on an emotional level.

What are some of your favorite places in Austin to take photographs?

So many places around Austin are great for photos. I've accumulated dozens of amazing shooting locations. Several downtown rooftops, city parks, and state parks. I like a mix of urban and nature, so parks like Zilker and Auditorium Shores a perfect.
