How did you get started with photography

I first gained experience with product photography to help my eBay store improve sales for the early 3 years. I then expanded to sports photography, which became my forte, shooting ages from 5 to college age athletes regularly since 2006. I am currently a contributing photographer for Maxpreps using this skill set. From there I pursued skills in portrait, landscape, panoramic, and wedding/event photography and have done paid work on all these methods. Finally, I am a contributing photographer to 13 different stock sites including, Shutterstock, istock, Adobe, Getty, and more.

What do you love about your job?

The most satisfying part of photography to me, is reaching a level of skill where I almost always have a vision of the shots I plan on capturing even before I arrive at any photoshoot. I am a list-maker and strive to have a plan for everything that I do in my life. Shooting on location creates a sense of anxiety and excitement on the job at hand and knowing what needs to be done. The thrill of those feeling comes during the editing process and realizing that the vision frequently was actually less spectacular than the final product.

What are some of your favorite places in Oxnard to take photographs?

I return regularly to beach for portrait shoots and landscapes. Sunrise and sunset lighting is the best times to capture a feeling with a model and with the addition of the ocean backdrop, it makes for photographic magic. The ocean and lighting creates reflections and angles of shadows that take an ordinary shoot into a whole different realm of creativeness.
