Why drive off to the mountains when there's lots of beautiful scenery near home? These are our five favorite spots for landscape photography in and around Seattle.

The Emerald City, as Seattle is fondly called, is one of the most picturesque places in Washington. It has a lot to offer for landscape photographers looking for the perfect shot. From green spaces to coastlines and skylines, you can capture it all in Seattle. Apart from these natural features, it also has an array great architectural views. The scenic views of the city are inexhaustible, but here is a list of our top five.

Alki Beach Park

The beach is situated in West Seattle area. From here you can capture the Cascade Mountains in the horizon, and during sunset, the beach gives a splendid view of the Olympic Mountains. You can take a shot of Seattle’s skyline from here or take pictures of the beautiful Salish Sea. During winter, snow covers the white sand of the beach, and there are snowmen all over. The view of the deserted coastal strip and the still, natural setting of the beach during winter are priceless.

Space Needle

The tower is one of the most visited places in the world. The highest level of the tower is the observation deck, which gives you a breathtaking aerial view of the city and its surrounding. The Lake Union and Mount Baker lie to the north of the deck. To the east are the Cascade Mountains and Bellevue. The Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound can be seen in the west and to the south are Mount Rainier and a commanding view of downtown Seattle.

Golden Gardens Park

Golden Gardens is a public park located in Ballard. The park has a rugged coastline with dunes, forest trails, marshes, ponds and wetlands, grassy areas and one of the best views of the Puget Sound. You can take pictures of the fishing pier and hundreds of sailboats in the blue waters. Evenings at the Golden Gardens Park are spectacular, and it is one of the best places to capture the sunset. The Olympic Mountains are also very clear from here.

Kerry Park

Lots of photographers visit Kerry Park every day for excellent shots of the city and its background. The views include Bainbridge Island, Elliott Bay, the scope of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier, and the peninsula of West Seattle. The park itself has green areas and flowers, and the slope overlooking its viewpoint is also green. The towering Space Needle stands the parks foreground. In the evening, join scores of other photographers looking to capture the sunset at Kerry Park. You can also take outstanding shots of the dazzling city at night from here.

Olympics Sculpture Park

The serene park is also a top destination for photography in Seattle. Apart from providing lovely greenscapes with sculptures in the background, the view of Elliot Bay and Puget Sound is stunning from here. You can also see Mount Rainier beyond the Puget Sound in clear weather. In the evenings, take a shot at the sun setting over the Olympic Mountain Range. You can also capture the Space Needle clearly from here. The park is ideal for early morning photography when there are fewer visitors.
