[EMBARGO] Photography Startup Snappr Launches in Seattle

Snappr has spread from California to Oregon to Washington with our launch in Seattle!

EMBARGOED - FOR RELASE ON 10/30/2017

Snappr, America’s newest photographer marketplace, is launching in Seattle in a follow up to their successful launches in San Francisco last January and San Diego in September. Snappr brings technology to bear on an otherwise old-fashioned and fragmented photography industry, offering an easy way to book photographers on-demand.

Shortly after closing a seed round made up of investors including Y Combinator, Google Maps co-founder Lars Rasmussen, Zynga co-founder Justin Waldron, and Australia’s largest VC fund Airtree Ventures, Snappr began ramping up towards opening their second city. Snappr CEO Matt Schiller said that Seattle was an easy choice:

“We looked for cities outside of California that showed a lot of interest from photographers and photography consumers in our platform and that had a strong startup scene. Seattle fit the bill perfectly,” Schiller explained.

Residents across Seattle will be able to use Snappr to book photographers for services like portrait shoots, event coverage, real estate photography, and more beginning Monday October 30th.

Snappr plans to stand out in the $30 billion photography market with a service that makes life easier for both photographers and consumers of photography and that implements novel technologies. For example, the recently launched Snappr Photo Analyzer, uses artificial intelligence help people improve their professional profile pictures and has become the most popular tool of its kind, being used more than 100,000 times. The company has revealed that it soon plans to release a new analyzer for dating photos.

“Great things happen at the intersection of artistic talent and cutting-edge tech, and we want to bring this combination to bear in $30bn photography market”, said Schiller.

In March, Snappr was ranked as the fastest growing startup in its Y Combinator batch, which has also backed the likes of Reddit, Airbnb, Dropbox and Stripe. Snappr started in Sydney, Australia in May last year and has since shifted its headquarters to San Francisco.

In addition to Seattle, Snappr operates in the San Francisco Bay area, San Diego County, and a number of cities in Australia. The company has announced it will have a presence in two more West Coast cities within the next 60 days. Photoshoots via Snappr start at $59 for 30 minutes.
